On Saturday, February 21, 2009 at 6 p.m., Jacob Woods and Elizabeth McDowell exchanged vows in a beautiful ceremony at First Baptist Church in Lubbock, Texas. Pastor Randy Holman of First Church officiated the ceremony. The guests included many old and new friends and family from near and afar.
The bride was escorted down the aisle by her brother, Air Force SSgt Joseph McDowell. The bride wore a white strapless satin A-line gown with silver beading on bodice, skirt, and train. The dress featured a pleated split back and a chapel train.
The family lit a memorial candle to honor the memory of the bride's late father, Paul "Mac" McDowell. The audience viewed a video of the bride and groom "Growing Up". Tears and laughter filled the sanctuary during the viewing of the video. (The video may be viewed above.)
The Wedding Party included sister of the bride, Marie Mangaya as Matron of Honor; best friend of the bride, Drianna Zeni as Maid of Honor; and close friends Ashley Hougland, Crystal Woods, Jillian Cooper, Michelle Northcott, and Tracy Bryson as Bridesmaids.
The groom's best friend, Sean Fisher, served as Best Man. Groomsmen included his brothers Jered Woods and Jason Woods; and friends Chad Prince, Kurt Willkom, Michael Sproul, and Derek Rolain.
The groom's nieces Jacie Woods and Brooke Woods served as Flower Girls. His nephew, Mason Woods, served as Ring Bearer. The bride's niece, Devany McDowell served as Special Assistant to the Bride.
Chad Prince and Kurt Willkom served as ushers.
The guests were entertained by the pianist, Ryan Stewart, before and during the ceremony. The soloist, Jennifer Womble sang "The Way I Am" during the Unity Candle ceremonies.
After the wedding ceremony, the Bride and Groom were treated to a ride in a vintage Rolls Royce provided by White Knights Limousine. The bridal party was transported to the reception in a Cadillac Escalade limousine provided by Limousines of Lubbock.
The festivities continued at the Historic Baker Building. The reception featured Filipino traditions of dance and song provided by Paraluman Group of San Antonio. Vicky Miranda sang "New York, New York"; Edwin and Marie Mangaya performed Cariñosa; Binasuan, a dance by Marie, Kit and Belinda accompanied in song by Vicky Miranda; and Tinikling was performed by Marie Mangaya. All preparation and choreograph was created by Dena Bennett. The exit to the honeymoon was the traditional Filipino lighting of the sparklers and line to the limousine.
Elizabeth McDowell is the daughter of Juanita and the late Paul McDowell of Lubbock, Texas. Jacob Woods is the son of Dan and Ruth Henderson and Jeff Woods, all of Lubbock, Texas. The groom's grandparents are Merle and Janice Woods and Joseph and Maxine Brozo and Ruth Brozo, all of Lubbock, Texas.
The groom's sister-in-law, Jessie Woods photographed the wedding and all festivities.
The couple's honeymoon trip was to the Bahamas and they will reside in Lubbock, Texas upon their return.
