Coach Romero’s coaching and teaching experience started in 1978 at Estacado High School as a JV assistant for Coach Louis Kelley. In 1979, he became head JV coach and joined the varsity staff in 1984 as a secondary coach. In 1985, Coach Romero was promoted to Defensive Coordinator, a post he held until Coach Kelley retired in 2000. He then joined Coach Joe Loudermilk’s staff at Lubbock High School in 2001 as inside linebackers coach for two years. In his third year, he was promoted to Defensive Coordinator, a post he held until Coach Loudermilk retired in 2003. In 2004, Coach Romero returned to Estacado High School under Coach Leaf as inside linebackers coach. In 2007, Coach Danny Servance became head coach at Estacado and made Coach Romero Defensive Coordinator and outside linebackers coach. Coach Romero also coached the baseball team as an assistant coach from 1978-1983. He is entering his 34th year in education and coaching. Thirty of those have been at Estacado High School. He is also the head wrestling coach.

Coach Bob Romero was born in Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1954. While in Santa Fe, he played football and ran track, graduating in 1972. Coach Romero was elected honorable mention All-State Football Player his senior year. After high school, Coach Romero played football and ran track for New Mexico Highlands University. In his first season at Highlands, he qualified for the N.A.I.A. National Track Meet running the 100-yard dash in 9.5 seconds. He played running back for three seasons, two as a starter, and also played in the secondary. Coach Romero graduated from NMHU in 1977 with a degree in Education and Social Work. He later went back and completed his Master’s degree in 1982 in History and was elected to the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society with a 4.0 GPA.

Coach Romero’s wife of 32 years, Charlotte, is a counselor at Estacado High School. They have two children, Coach J.R. Romero, who is 28 and a teacher and coach, and Contessa – 22, a senior  at West Texas A & M University majoring in Psychology.

Coach Danny Douglas is in his 12th year coaching. He serves as both an offensive coordinator and defensive line coach for Estacado High School. He is also the girl’s wrestling coach.

Before coming to Estacado, he spent four years at Dunbar Middle School and one year at Evans Middle School. Coach Douglas attended the University of Texas at Arlington and the University of New Mexico on football scholarships. He returned to Lubbock and graduated from Texas Tech University in 1993 with a degree in Exercise Sports Sciences and Health. In 2006, Coach Douglas his Masters of Education degree and his principal’s administrative certification from Wayland Baptist University.

He is married to his beautiful wife Kym, who is a journalism teacher at Lubbock High School. They have six children: Oscar – 18, Ashlee – 17, Duncan – 15, Veronica – 12, Joshua – 11, and Blayze – 3.
